We flew into the South where we met the family - all up we had a group of ten. We found Croatia to be a charming country.
We started with four nights in Cavtat. It was a lovely small town about 20 minutes by boat from Dubrovnik. It was here that we realised the Croatian love of food and wine. There were also several beaches nearby, and houses with red tiled rooves. The weather was lovely; everybody felt very pleased to be on holiday. We did a day trip into Dubrovnik- a very beautiful, if somewhat touristic city.
We then drove and took a ferry to the island of Korcula. For 4 days we stayed about 3km out of the main town at a small village called Lumbarda. Lumbarda is famous for its wine. It also has lovely sandy beaches. We did several trips into the township of Korcula. Once again there was great food, wine, and red tiled rooves.
We then drove to the medieval town of Trogir. It is set on its own island about 30 minutes drive from Split. Like everywhere else in Croatia, there was good food, good wine, good weather, and plenty of swimming!
Finally we said goodbye to the family and headed inland to Plitvice National Park. It was a collection of limestone lakes and waterfalls. The lakes themselves were very beautiful, as was the surrounding district.
