For this trip we took three weeks off, hired a car, and drove around South India. Peter, our driver, chauffeured us around in a new white Ambassador.

For the first half of the trip we drove through Tamil Nadu looking at the fantastic Hindu temples. We saw a range of big and little, old and new, plain and fancy temples. The real highlight from this part of the trip was the amazing street life. Watching the South Indian people going about their business, eating the spicy hot food, and listening to all the music and chanting.

For the second half of the trip we relaxed in Kerala. A beautiful beach state. We spent a few days on the beach at Kovalam swimming and eating seafood. We then hired a boat and were punted around the Kerala backwaters. The backwaters are canals through the rice paddies with the locals living alongside. The last few days we spent in the old Portuguese town of Cochin (Kochi).
